The financial requirement is where most cases turn
The financial requirement is the single most common reason a partner application is refused, and almost never because the money is not there. It is refused because the evidence does not match the rules: payslips that do not correspond to bank credits, a self-employed year evidenced with the wrong documents, or savings held for a day short of the required period.
Evidence, not argument
A partner application is decided by a caseworker reading a bundle. Relationship evidence needs to cover the whole period claimed rather than the beginning and the end of it, and the strongest bundles are the ones where a caseworker never has to guess what they are looking at.
Children and dependants
Children can usually be included with a parent's application. Where a child is British or has lived in the UK for seven years, different considerations apply and the case may be arguable outside the Rules.
